EPFL Center for Neuroprostheses

The Bertarelli family have had long-standing ties with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), a leading Swiss institution dedicated to education, research and technology transfer at the highest international level. The EPFL regularly develops new and groundbreaking work in science, technology and architecture.

The new Center for Neuroprostheses, launched in 2008, benefits from EPFL’s Brain Mind Institute and from the work being done in nanotechnology, signal processing, robotics and material sciences, to develop innovative approaches to neuroprosthetics and brain-machine interfaces at large.

The Bertarelli Foundation is sponsoring two of the six Chairs of the Center for Neuroprostheses, dedicated more particularly to “Neuroengineering and neuroprosthetics” and “Neurophysiology and coding of cochlear implants”. The first will focus on the technologies that will be at the basis of a variety of neuroprosthetic approaches that are required to optimize implants. The second works on the interface between the neurophysiology of auditory processing and the development of novel cochlear implants.
